We Have a Podcast
Tom Rawlings and I recorded a six-part podcast series for YSO Academy, and all six episodes are now available. The series is called “Cultivating a Culture of Safety,” and it walks through the full arc of building a child protection program from the ground up.
Here is what we cover:
Part 1: The Foundation of Safety (26 min.) covers the fundamental principles behind a strong child protection program and a timeline for building one.
Part 2: Building Your Child Protection Dream Team (34 min.) discusses which people in your organization need to be part of the policy development process and why.
Part 3: Drafting Strong Child Protection Policies (31 min.) explains why you should adapt policies rather than adopt them wholesale from other sources, and what the key elements of a strong policy look like.
Part 4: Partnering for Success (29 min.) covers how to work with outside experts as part of your policy development process.
Part 5: Putting It All Together (27 min.) addresses staff training and how to communicate your policies to stakeholders.
Part 6: When the Worst Happens (30 min.) explains best practices for responding to a serious incident or allegation, including victim support, investigation, and communicating with authorities and your community.
You can listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. Start wherever a topic fits your current situation, or work through them in order if you are building your program from scratch.
